AMAL AWAD is a journalist, screenwriter, author, podcaster and performer, as well as the author of seven books, , including three novels – Courting SamiraThis is How You Get Better and The Things We See in the Light – and the non-fiction books The Incidental MuslimBeyond Veiled Clichés: The Real Lives of Arab WomenFridays With My Folks – Stories on Ageing, Illness and Life, and In My Past Life I was CleopatraShe has contributed to the anthologies Growing Up Muslim in Australia and Some Girls Do … (My Life as a Teenager).

Amal is writing her next novel, Come to Me in My Dreams, due for publication in 2023.

Amal Awad has contributed to The Guardian, the Sydney Morning Herald, SBS Life, ELLE, Frankie, Meanjin, Going Down Swinging, Daily Life, Sheilas, and Junkee. She has produced and presented for ABC Radio National, been a regular panellist on ABC’s The Drum and a TEDx Macquarie speaker.
