Dinuka McKenzie

Dinuka McKenzie is the author of the Detective Kate Miles crime series, The Torrent, Taken and Tipping Point, published in Australia and the UK. She is the winner of the 2020 Harper Collins Australia The Banjo Prize. Her writing has been shortlisted for the Sisters in Crime Davitt Awards, the Bad Sydney Crime Danger Awards, longlisted for the Richell Prize, and highly commended in the Australian Crime Writers Association Louie Award. Her short fiction has appeared in the 2022 anthology, Dark Deeds Down Under: A Crime and Thriller Anthology.

Dinuka lives in Southern Sydney on Dharawal country with her husband, two kids, and their pet chicken. 


 

Michael Robotham

Michael Robotham is a former feature writer and investigative reporter, who has worked in Britain, Australia and America. Storm Child, his new Cyrus and Evie thriller, is due to be published in July 2024. Michael's debut thriller, The Suspect, introduced clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin, and sold over one million copies worldwide, launching a nine-book series. It has been adapted into an ITV series, starring Aidan Turner. Michael's standalone thriller, The Secrets She Keeps, has also been the basis of two BBC TV series. He has twice won the prestigious UK Crime Writers' Association, Gold Dagger Award, for best crime novel, as well as the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger, for When She Was Good, a Richard & Judy Book Club pick. Michael lives in Sydney. 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of Michael's first book, The Suspect, being published. 
 

Hayley Scrivenor

Hayley Scrivenor’s debut novel, Dirt Town, became an instant No.1 Australian bestseller in 2022 and was a USA TODAY bestseller as well. It has been translated into multiple languages and won a number of national and international awards, including an Australian Book Industry Award for General Fiction Book of the Year, a Lambda Literary award for LGBTQ+ Mystery, a Davitt Award for Best Debut Crime Book, and a Crime Writers’ Association ‘New Blood’ Dagger. Hayley holds a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Wollongong and lives on Dharawal country, on the East coast of Australia. Her second novel, Girl Falling, will be published in 2024.

Suzanne Leal

Suzanne Leal is the author of novels The Watchful WifeThe Teacher’s Secret and The Deceptions, and winner of the Nib People’s Choice Prize. Her debut novel for junior readers, Running with Ivan, is a 2024 CBCA Notable Book for Younger Readers and was shortlisted for the NSW Premier’s History Awards, and the ARA Historical Novel Prize.

A lawyer experienced in child protection, criminal law and refugee law, Suzanne is an experienced facilitator at community, corporate and literary events. She is the founder of Thursday Book Club, a relaxed book club, connecting readers online.

The Berry Writers Festival acknowledges the Dharawal and Dhurga language-speaking groups who are traditional owners of this area. We acknowledge their customs and culture, which have nourished, and continue to nourish, this land. And we extend our respects to Elders, past, present, and future.
