Set up Crew / Festival Operations Volunteer
The Berry Writers Festival is seeking energetic, practical and reliable volunteers to assist with festival logistics and venue operations during the festival weekend.
Roadies play an essential behind-the-scenes role helping ensure venues, equipment and event spaces are set up safely and efficiently. This role is ideal for hands-on people who enjoy working as part of a team in a fast-paced event environment.
Volunteer Duties
Roadie responsibilities may include:
- Assisting with Festival set-up and pack-down
- Working with the Venue Managers with room changes including moving furniture and
- equipment, setting up stages
- Ensure signage is set up before the Festival starts and remove afterwards
- Delivering equipment and supplies eg books to required locations
- Helping maintain tidy and safe event spaces
- Assisting Venue Managers and festival staff with operational tasks
- Responding quickly to changing operational needs throughout the festival
What We’re Looking For
We welcome volunteers who are:
- Practical, proactive and reliable
- Physically capable of moving seats, equipment etc
- Comfortable working in busy environments
- Calm under pressure and adaptable
- Good team players with a positive attitude
- Punctual and willing to help where needed
- Interested in events, arts and community festivals
Previous experience in events, theatre, logistics, staging or hospitality is helpful but not essential.
Physical Requirements
This role may involve:
- Standing for extended periods
- Lifting and carrying equipment or boxes
- Walking between venues
- Working both indoors and outdoors
Training and safety instructions will be provided prior to and during the festival.

Availability
Set up crew are needed across the festival weekend from Thursday 5 November to Sunday 8 November, including some early morning and evening shifts for venue set-up and pack-down.
